The Big Island of Hawaii

Me and my family are going to Hawaii. First we are flying into Honolulu, then flying to Kona and finally driving to Waimea. People near Waimea have cattle ranches. I learned that the Spanish people taught Hawaiians how to be cowboys. About 9,000 people live in Waimea. Did you know Waimea is also known as Kamuele?

When we are in Hawaii we might climb the mountain of Mauna Kae. Mauna Kae is a dormant volcano. That means it is mostly likely not going to erupt. There are observatories at the top of the mountain. Did you know a lot of people go skiing and snowboarding at the top? I thought you could only go skiing in Alaska.

In Hawaii we also plan to climb Kilauea. Kilauea is one of the most active volcanoes. Kilauea is the youngest volcanoes and the most southeastern volcano on The Big Island. Kilauea is thought to be the home of Pele, the volcano goddess. I think it's going to be a very good trip!
